Want to learn to manage your boss effectively? Our latest blog posts helps
you understand how to do this successfully.
Your boss’ job is two-fold: to get the best out of you, and to make sure you’re up to the standards your business sets.
The mistake most people make is thinking it’s a one-way relationship. It isn’t. You can, and should, be managing your boss too.
First of all, that means getting to know what keeps them up at night.
What are their objectives?
What are their worries about the business, or the team?
What motivates them?
What frustrates them?
This kind of intel is gold dust. While all your colleagues are busy turning up, working through a to-do list and heading home, you can be turning yourself into the single most important person in your team.
All you need to do is put together a plan that a) helps your boss hit their goals, and b) addresses their frustrations (you’ll often be able to kill both birds with one stone).
When you’re done, share the plan with any key people who’ll be involved, or who might derail things down the line. (Remember: the brilliantly named Ikea Effect means people are more likely to support something if they were involved in its construction.)
Once you’ve got the support of that group, you’re onto a winner.
